Finalist, 2014

Therapy Box is an award winning app development company that specialises in communication and therapy apps for people of all ages and abilities. Founded in 2010 by Rebecca Bright (speech and language therapist) and Swapnil Gadgil (telecoms expert), they were the first company in the UK to create apps on mobile devices for people with disabilities – they have now created 14 apps in seven languages, which are available in 35 countries.

Therapy Box seek to apply the latest innovations in app development to meet the needs of those who have communication difficulties, due to a range of disabilities arising from cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease, autism, brain injuries and other neurological and developmental disorders.

One of Therapy Box’s apps, Predictable, is an award winning text-to-speech app, offering customisable AAC functions with the latest social media integration, giving a voice to people who are losing or who have lost their natural voice. One of Predictable’s users, Kerry says: “I can at last have a voice once more. Having a voice is just so important because you feel so isolated, and that decisions were being made for you instead of with you.”
