collection service “RevaluElectricals” for small electrical items in Brighton & Hove, with funding from BHCC and the Recycle Your Electricals Campaign. Through the service, offered to the 288,000 residents, we collect unwanted electrical items for refurbishment and redistribution as an alternative to traditional disposal methods preventing waste of electrical items promoting reuse.

Between November 2020 and May 2021, we collected over 20,000 items, from over 1,300 residents. We have developed partnerships with like-minded organisations and charities for redistribution of the items collected back into the community and have provided over 150 refurbished laptops to school children, refugees, and vulnerable families and adultsWe have also provided over 700 items for reuse, saving over 50 tonnes of C02e.

What we do

RevaluElectricals is the first on-demand, app powered, small electrical collection service of this type for a City in the UK – and possibly Europe!

  • Residents use The ZeroNet app or Tech-Takeback on-line webform to request a collection of unwanted small electrical items from their home.
  • Tech-Takeback collect from the doorstep on a booked day and time and log the items into an asset management system.
  • All items are processed at our operations base, where data erasure is undertaken, followed by triage for reuse, refurbishment, and disassembly.
  • Once ready for reuse the tech and other small electricals are redistributed via Tech-Takeback’s charity reuse partners.

 Next steps

Working with Citizens Online, we have created the “Digissentials Support Package” which aims to provide at least 10 families or vulnerable people with refurbished devices (laptops, tablets, TVs, small kitchen electricals etc), a 12 month data connectivity package and Digital Champion support, over a 12 month period. Our target of crowdfunding £2,500 is to support 10 families in Brighton & Hove immediately, with a greater target of up to 100 families across Sussex  https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/digissentials
