Community Impact Award, Winner, Winner of Winners, 2013

Self Help Services is a user-led group that has delivered Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Services to over 1500 people across Greater Manchester in the past year.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is approved by NICE and has been shown to be highly effective in treating common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. Unfortunately it is too expensive for many people to access so this service is tackling social exclusion by reaching vulnerable people in disadvantaged communities.

The services are delivered in non-stigmatising community venues such as libraries, community centres and learning zones. After an initial face-to-face assessment the clients have access to videos, learning resources and other computerised materials.

This innovative service has transformed access to a vital service and made a huge difference to many people’s lives.
