Keeping people talking and educating big business

SignVideo was born in response to the frustration of the deaf British Sign Language (BSL) community. It can be incredibly difficult to communicate with hearing people and do normal, everyday things like visit the doctor or contact a service provider. Their founder Jeff McWhinney decided enough was enough and created SignVideo – a Video Relay Services and Video Remote Interpreting provider in the UK.

Over 10 years later, they are going strong, providing real-time British Sign Language (BSL) video interpreting services to enable communication between the community of over 150,000 deaf BSL users in the UK and hearing people.

“We believe we should win because we are changing things for the better. We make a real difference, every single day, for deaf BSL users,” said Jeff.

“We are determined. We work hard and we believe in what we do. We provide the best VRS / VRI service in the UK, with the needs of deaf BSL users firmly at the forefront. We are 100% focused on connecting society.”

This service is available instantly on tablets, smartphones, computers and laptops via apps and software. They are also a Video Remote Interpreting provider, offering BSL video interpretation on site, when two people are in the same place.

Talking to hearing friends, family and co-workers is possible and easy with SignVideo. Their customers tell them they can order a take away due to our evening hours, phone their bank or energy company easily and so much more.

“I have today had a wonderful experience using SignVideo with a customer. How proud was I that I could communicate with our customer in such a way that they were made to feel valued by Barclays,” said Laura who works at the bank.

They are striving to educate the big UK service providers on why it’s important to offer customer services in BSL and have now partnered with organisations such as BT, Barclays, HSBC, SSE, British Gas, Sky, Santander, DWP, Nationwide, RBS, Natwest, Prudential and more.
