Digital Volunteer of the Year, Finalist, 2023
Dennis and Veronica, AKA DisabledTraveller, live in England and regularly give up their time to write detailed disabled access review for EuansGuide.com, the disabled access charity.
Dennis and Veronica upload detailed disabled access reviews of places they visits across England and the rest of the UK. Their reviews often come in many parts due to length and detail, and they describe every aspect of the venue they’ve visited, from a general overview of the attraction to disabled parking and accessible toilets. Dennis and Veronica save each review submission in draft as they go, making sure the different parts are seamless for the reader, and they upload images online for each review, referencing these within the copy and describing them so the reader can get a real feel for each point in pictures too.
These reviews contribute to the work Euan’s Guide does in making the world a more accessible place.
The impact Dennis and Veronica have on the lives of other people is profound. The community’s feedback is that just one review can give someone else the confidence to visit somewhere new. The importance of being able to find disabled access information is huge. 91% of our 2022 Access Survey respondents said they try to find disabled access information about a new place before visiting, and 72% said they’ve found accessibility information on a venue’s website to be misleading, confusing or inaccurate, with 74% reporting having had to change plans due to poor accessibility. This means that Dennis and Veronica’s reviews are helping disabled people find great places to go safely because they provide detailed information about the places they visit.
