Who would you share your personal health data with? And why?
This year’s Tech4Good Awards include a Digital Health Award and we’re interested how the rapid growth in wearable technology – much of which promises health benefits – will be affected by our attitudes to privacy.
A short survey is open now at www.surveymonkey.com/s/tech4good-digital-health and we’d love to hear your opinions about this issue.
What is Wearable Tech?
This research has been prompted by the growth in wearable technologies such as watches, wristbands, smartphones and other devices that can collect data such as heart rate, activity levels, sleep, distance travelled and other health-related information.
Apps on your phone or tablet can be linked to these devices and send data to services that offer advice to improve your health. Research projects and data services can also collect this data to create a better picture of health issues across the community.
Benefits vs Risks
Some people already wear these devices and use them everyday to improve their health. Some people don’t use them because they are concerned about privacy and how their personal data will be used. Some people aren’t aware of the health benefits being offered or aren’t interested in the technology.
We are interested in your view of the benefits vs the risks and how this may affect the development of new health services that use these technologies.
Your anonymity
You can complete this short survey anonymously. Once completed you will be invited to give us your email address so that we can let you know the results. Your email address will not be connected to your survey responses.
Closing Date
The survey is open until noon on Monday 20 April and the results will be shared the week after.
Please share
We want to gather as much data as possible from people of all ages and all backgrounds so please share this link as widely as you can.
