IT Volunteer of the Year, Winner, 2015

Rachael Moat is a musician and music teacher who volunteers once a week at Seashell Trust, a school for children with complex needs and severe learning difficulties, including little to no verbal language.

Since November 2013, Rachael has used her skills as a musician, educator and tech enthusiast to develop customised musical technology, tailored to encouraging individual students to overcome the various difficulties they have in interacting with their surroundings. She has delivered a number of presentations about her work to various local community groups, and has helped countless students with the most profound and complex needs increase their independence and access greater stimulating activities. Through the development of customised low-cost technologies, she continues to help many more students meet their learning potential, and increase their interaction with the world.
