Community News Award, Winner, 2012

Radio Free Brighton is run completely by volunteers who use online radio to build a stronger, more diverse, and integrated community. Their programmes focus on education and empowerment, mutual respect and are linked to disability groups, local communities and schools. There are shows in French, Spanish, Greek, Arabic and Polish, shows in which older people and academics share their wisdom and specialist knowledge and shows on specific genres of music.

The technology is used to help people produce programmes from home, and all the equipment has been adapted for people inexperienced in broadcasting.
