Finalist, Independent Living Award, 2023

A collection of Microsoft adaptable accessories on a tableThe new Microsoft Adaptive Accessories provide a highly adaptable, easy-to-use system. Each piece is designed in partnership with the disability community to empower people who may have difficulty using a traditional mouse and keyboard to create their ideal setup, increase productivity, and use their favourite apps more effectively. A traditional mouse and keyboard may pose obstacles for someone with limited mobility. The adaptive accessories can perform a variety of functions, thereby alleviating a pain point for those who find it challenging to get the most out of their PC. One size does not fit all: the Microsoft Adaptive Accessories make workplace inclusion a reality by mainstreaming adaptive computer accessories.

The uniqueness of the Microsoft Adaptive Accessories is that they have been purposefully designed to adapt to the user. Not the other way around. The accessories already pack a ton of accessibility features straight out of the box. They can be used completely wirelessly and can also be adapted with 3D printed extensions available from Shapeways to fit unique needs. One can also download 3D models, 3D print them at home and makers can create more custom designs for the accessories.
